Where is Explorium located?
Explorium is located against the beautiful backdrop of the Dublin Mountains overlooking Dublin City on Blackglen Road in Sandyford, Dublin 18, D18N1F2.
Easily accessed from most parts of the country.
What hours are you open?
These opening hours are for October, November & December 2024.
Junior Explorium is open daily from 09.30 to 17.30.
Science & Activities are open on Friday from 15:00 – 18:00 and Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 – 18:00. During school holidays Science & Activities will be open from 10:00 – 18:00 daily.
Please note that you should always check the website to see if tickets are available on the day and time you would like to visit, as areas do close occasionally for private parties or maintenance.
Do I need to pre-book tickets?
We strongly advise that tickets are purchased on-line in advance of your visit to avoid disappointment if we are full. When we are full, no walk-in tickets will be sold.
How much are the tickets?
In Junior Explorium, children’s tickets are €15 and adult tickets are €5. Children under 2 tickets are free. Carers are free upon presenting a valid Carer ID card at Reception on the day of entry.
In Science, tickets are €30 per person.
In Activities, Urban Climb tickets are €18, Conquer Your Fears Climb tickets are €22, VR Experience tickets are €12, and AR Experience tickets are €16.
For a visit to Junior Explorium, do I need to purchase a child ticket for my 12-year-old or can I buy an adult ticket?
All children under 18 require a child’s ticket in Junior Explorium.
I understand that children under 2 are free but do I need a ticket for an under 2?
Yes, you can reserve a free Under 2 ticket when you make your booking on-line.
Are tickets refundable?
All Explorium tickets are purchased on a non-refundable basis.
I booked a ticket, but now I want to change it?
If you would like to change your ticket, please email info@explorium.ie at least 48 hours in advance of your visit and we will try to assist you. We do not have manned phone lines. We cannot guarantee we can change it and requests are dealt with on a case by case basis.
Do you offer any discounts on admission?
Carers receive free admission upon presentation of valid ID.
Children under 2 are free.
Do you sell Explorium gift cards?
Digital Gift Cards can be purchased online @ https://explorium.ie or physical Gift Cards are available at Reception.
Where can i park?
There are ample free parking facilities at Explorium.
Do I need to arrive at my scheduled arrival time in Junior Explorium?
Yes, we have timed ticketing to help us control crowding in the space. Your ticket is valid for 2 hours from the start time on your ticket.
What timeslots are available in Junior Explorium?
You can choose from 9:30-11:30, 12:30-14:30, or 15:30-17:30 sessions in Junior.
What timeslots are available in Science?
Science tickets are valid all day.
Can I exit Science and return on the same day?
Yes, if you ask for a wristband at Reception when you exit, you can return on the same day.
What timeslots are available in Activities?
Each activity has different times available to choose from. Climbing sessions last 1 hour (including harnessing and safety briefing). VR and AR sessions last approximately 30 minutes. Please try to arrive 15 minutes early for your timeslot to ensure you receive your full allotment of time.
Can I go into Junior Explorium with a Science ticket?
No, these areas are ticketed separately.
Can I go into Science with a Junior ticket?
No, these areas are ticketed separately.
Can I go into Science or Junior when I have an Activities ticket?
No, these areas are all ticketed separately.
What about accessibility?
Explorium is fully wheelchair accessible and buggy friendly. We also have a drop off area at the entrance.
What’s the best time to visit?
For Junior, anytime is great, but you might want to consider visiting on a weekday afternoon, when there are usually fewer visitors, if you are hoping for a less crowded environment.
For Science or Activities, you might want to consider visiting on a Friday evening to find a less crowded environment.
Can I bring my own food to Explorium?
We do not allow outside food in Explorium. We have 2 lovely The Oasis spaces and the Gravity Social restaurant that can provide food service for you.
What food can be purchased onsite?
The Oasis is located in both Junior Explorium and our Lobby space near the Gift Shop, which features sandwiches, salads, pastries, coffees, etc.
Gravity Social Restaurant is located off the Lobby on the Science side of the building and has lovely views of Dublin while you enjoy a more varied selection of hot or cold dishes, desserts and beverages.
Is Junior Explorium just for under 7s?
Junior Explorium is recommended for ages 2-7 years, but older siblings are also welcome to play in the space if you are trying to keep the family together. We ask that any older siblings be very conscious of the little people around them.
My toddler is 22 months. Can we still visit Junior Explorium?
Yes, you can. All children must be supervised by their parent(s) or guardian(s) at all times.
Is Science just for over 8s?
Science is recommended for ages 8 and up, including adults. If you have a younger child that would like to attend with the rest of the family, a few things may be out of reach both physically and cognitively, but they are welcome in the space with supervision.
How strict is the age limit for Activities Zone, like climbing or VR/AR experiences?
Children must be at least 8-years-old to participate in Urban Climbing.
Children must be at least 10-years-old to participate in Conquer Your Fears.
Children must be at least 8-years-old to participate in VR or AR experiences.
What can adults do at Explorium?
Adults like to play, too! The Science Centre and Activities Zone both have activities adults will enjoy, with their children or with other adults. Climbing Walls, AR and VR experiences, F1 Car, the G-Force Bike, the Lightning Show, the Bed of Nails, and much more are all entertaining/educational for adults. Local businesses or adult Groups/Clubs are welcome to schedule group visits, meetings/conferences, or holiday parties at Explorium.
Can children be left alone in Junior Explorium?
For the safety of all our guests, all children should be supervised at all times by a parent, guardian, or accompanying adult.
Can children be left alone in the Science Centre?
For the safety of all our guests, all children under 13 should be supervised at all times by a parent, guardian, or accompanying adult. Children 13+ must have an accompanying adult present in the building.
Can children be left alone in the Activity Zone?
Children can be left under the supervision of Activity staff for the duration of their session. Their accompanying adult must be present in the building.
Is it okay to film or take photos at Explorium?
Informal photography and videos for personal use are allowed during regular hours as long as other visitors’ experiences are not disrupted and the photos are for non-commercial use. Photography of strangers is not allowed for any reason without the person’s (or their guardian’s) written consent.
