Breaking Barriers: Celebrating Women & Girls in Science
Every year on February 11th, the world comes together to celebrate the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, a United Nations initiative dedicated to achieving full and equal access to science for women and girls.
This day honors the contributions of women in STEM—from Marie Curie’s groundbreaking research on radioactivity to Katherine Johnson’s pivotal role in NASA’s space missions. Yet, it also serves as a reminder of the work still needed to close the gender gap in scientific fields.
Despite progress, women remain underrepresented in many STEM disciplines, facing barriers like limited access to education, unconscious bias, and a lack of visible role models. By amplifying the stories of women innovators and fostering environments where girls can explore their curiosity, we inspire future generations and enrich the scientific community with diverse perspectives that drive innovation.
Addressing the Gender Gap in STEM
While celebrating achievements is vital, addressing persistent challenges is equally crucial. Globally, women account for only 33% of researchers and often encounter inequities in funding, leadership opportunities, and recognition.
- Schools must champion STEM education for girls.
- Organizations need to implement inclusive policies.
- Mentorships can bridge the gap between aspiration and achievement.
At Explorium, we’re committed to empowering the next generation through immersive learning programs that ignite a passion for science and technology, regardless of gender.
